Founder’s Journey: From Challenge to Vision 

Vineet Saraiwala, an alumnus of IIM Bangalore and former executive at Future Group, excelled in corporate leadership work before a pivotal life change. He was diagnosed with Retinitis Pigmentosa, a progressive vision-impairing condition, he began facing unexpected personal and professional challenges, created limitations he had never imagined before. 

The turning point surely came during a corporate project when he struggled to find an artist with a disability. He needed someone who could authentically bring their lived experience into creative work. That absence struck a deep chord. He realized that, despite vast talent, PwDs in India have good skills lacked dependable channels to connect with demand—and employers are also lacked awareness or networks to reach them. 

Driven by this realization, Vineet took the brave decision to leave his established career. He stepped away from his job regarding this understanding. As per his vision, the platform would celebrate disability rather than just accommodate it. He wanted to turn perceived disadvantages into actual assets regarding disabled individuals. In a landmark appearance on Shark Tank India, Atypical Advantage pitched for ₹30 lakh in exchange for 1% equity—a bold valuation expressing confidence in the platform’s mission. The pitch surely connected with the Sharks because it was emotional and inspiring. Moreover, it was based on real social impact that made a genuine difference.

Namita Thapar and Aman Gupta were visibly moved by the founder’s story and the visible difference the platform had already made. They countered with an offer: ₹30 lakh for 3% equity— Vineet accepted this deal because the valuation was still good and the terms were much better for him.

After the show, visibility surely increased dramatically. The exposure reached much higher levels than before. Further, partner companies surely increased significantly, and media coverage amplified considerably. Moreover, the platform’s credibility soared to new heights during this period. The Shark Tank deal surely strengthened Atypical Advantage’s money and brand trust, helping the company grow faster. This deal confirmed its position as a top social enterprise that creates jobs for all people.

Funding and Expansion Plans 

In 2023, Atypical Advantage raised ₹1.6 crore in seed funding from notable investors, including Ravi Venkatesan and Nachiket Shelgikar.

The funding will further support technology upgrades and new skill-development centers for PwDs. The investment itself focuses on reaching talent in underserved areas.

By 2035, the platform aims to empower 1 million PwDs by expanding across metros and tier-2 cities, deepening corporate partnerships, and diversifying jobs in sectors like manufacturing, logistics, and creative industries.
